Patch Thoughts: TERA 25.06

Let’s talk about Patch 25.06 for TERA. Major changes in this patch were the addition of animations for certain back cosmetics and of the Federation Bills and store, as well as some niche bug fixes. Full patch notes are linked here.

So with every login, rather than the usual text-based welcome message, you’ll be greeted with a rather intrusive image.

welcome message

WELCOME TO TERA. PLEASE STAY AND LOOK AT OUR WEBSITE. PLEASE.

It really wouldn’t be a big deal if you could hit Esc and/or Alt to automatically close it, but NOPE! You have to close the window yourself with your mouse. But whatever. Minor inconvenience as long as you’re not logging back in from a disconnect mid-Skyring or something.

Moving along to the main attraction, we go to find NPC Tikat, the one in charge of selling the goods.

tikatHere we find him at the center of Pathfinder Post, but he can also be found in every non-major city – that is, you’ll be able to find him in every town except Velika, Allemantheia, and Kaiator. The important thing is finding him and checking his wares.

First tab of the Federation Bill Store. Hardly impressive. Temporary Shape Changers are fun to joke around with, and one-use Atlases are pretty cheap (more on Bills later)

Second page now. Standard fare again. Looks like they just brought back everything that Major Milestone used to sell, except they’re using Federation Bills as currency rather than those tokens they gave out at the time. Whatever. These are pretty cheap cosmetics; nothing is particularly fancy or a must-get.

And we arrive at the third page. Now things have suddenly become really good. Despite their cost (100 Bills is basically 20 days of consistent logins at 5 Bills per login), having sliders readily available without needing to hit the Trade Broker means a few things: they will get (slightly) cheaper in the Broker, they will become readily available to players who had missed the event when these were given out, and they will be a somewhat stable source of income for those with nothing else to spend Bills on.

Apothecary dyes are also an interesting choice in the Store due to their presence in the cash shop. They were already relatively cheap due to being in plenty of Loot Boxes, but this should probably affect the overall price by very little.

And now we’re talking about amazing prizes. From top to bottom, we’ve got (previously) HM-only mounts, KNHM/SJG prize cosmetics, and non-dyeable templates of the Agnitor (and Abyss, more later) set of equipment. These were all items that were removed from drop tables and merchants some time ago and were, for a time, not able to be gotten.

tikat kelsaik

One of the bigger conflicts arising from EME’s implementation of the Federation Bill Store is adding in the Kelsaik Mask cosmetic. Previously, this was the reward for completing KNHM a staggering 30 times for the “A Wrong of Fire and Ice” achievement. By adding it into the Store and making it attainable by waiting 80 days, many players who ground through the dungeon will suddenly find their special cosmetic not-so-special. In the end though, at least the Title is still locked to achievement, so there is still that to be content with.

tikat quandry

As mentioned before, both the Santia and Quandry Bazaar templates, formerly costing Fraywind credits before being removed, are now available. Where the Santia template could be replicated by crafting the dyeable, template-able Dreamkeeper set, that route would take farming for Dream Bindings and Godsmarrow to craft. Quandry Bazaar, on the other hand, is a template for the Abyss set of gear, so their return as a template is a welcome sight.

tikat quandry preview

It should be noted that while both sets qualify as templates, neither are able to be dyed. As a result, your Santia set will remain colored black, while your Quandry Bazaar set will be colored white.

Not pictured is the implementation of animations for the following back cosmetics in the game:

  • Wind-Up Key
  • Monarch Wings
  • Azure Butterfly Wings
  • White Butterfly Wings

The changes also affect existing ones, so if you have these equipped, they will be animated instead of their static appearance from before. Considering animated back cosmetics came alongside capes, this implies we will probably see the capes coming in the coming weeks, though definitely before the implementation of Reapers in May.
